I used to live life on my terms, under my strength.
I would pride myself that I could do life independently. I felt so empowered that I could do most things on my own. If I didn’t know how to do something, I would figure it out.
On many levels this trait is admirable. I mean everyone should learn how to be independent, confident, and empowered to try, fail, and try again.
But, today I see and feel the difference between being independent, doing life on my terms, and surrendering my life over to God.
When I lived my life independent, the weight of the world was on my shoulders. The responsibility that came with that expectation was stress – and a lot of it!
When I finally surrendered my life over to God, the peace that came with it was remarkable. For the first time, I felt an overwhelming sense of calmness.
The peace that my purpose in life is less about me figuring it all out and more about laying it out in front of God, asking Him to reveal it to me. After all, the Bible tells me that I was created for one specific purpose.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (John 15:16)
My job is merely to ask God to guide my steps.
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
Don’t get me wrong, surrendering my life over to God to also very hard. I like to be in control, and I’m very (very) impatient.
There are still many days when I’m running my race, at my pace. Letting go of a bad habit is incredibly tough. Thankfully, God is gracious and quick to forgive.
Because I’m trying hard to do God’s will in my life, I often find myself paralyzed to take action for fear I might be walking off the path God has set for me.
And so I ask dear friends to pray with me because there is nothing I want more than to walk my God-given purpose.
Just Keep Walking
And so, when my life recently came to a crossroad, I asked a friend for prayer. The question I asked her to pray was, “Should I act on this opportunity?”
She only said three words to me. But, these three words have changed my life, and I pray they serve to encourage you today in your life journey.
“Just keep walking.”
This simple advice freed me from the paralyzing fear I was walking off my God-chosen path. These words gave me space to breathe and try.
And try I did.
This opportunity I was talking about was to start another business in freelance writing.
I have discovered that writing is my passion. It makes my soul soar and fills me like no other. If you could see inside my head, I’m often writing words all day long!
So, now, you can find me not only here as a health coach, speaker, and writer on this website, using God’s truths as the foundation for living life different – better – healthier, but also as a freelance writer at Sowing Seeds of Hope.
How Is God Nudging You?
Friend, are you feeling called to try something new but are living in fear of taking the next step?
If so, I pray the advice I received are words you need to hear today to take your next step. You never know if this one step is the step God is asking of you.
The way I see it, and the way God tells us in His Word, if we’re stepping off His path, He will let us know. He wouldn’t be mad at us for trying because He already knows our hearts.
What steps are you feeling God nudge you towards today? Will you email me and let me know how I can pray, encourage, and support you?
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” (Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10).
Praying you through, friend,
